Your student just completed a successful freshman year of high school or will be entering high school in a few months. But, as a parent, you are panicked! Your friends with high school seniors have spent the last six months telling you horror stories about the college admissions process. Is it highly flawed? Yes, without a doubt. Selective colleges have seen a surge of applications over the last several years that makes admission officers’ jobs exceedingly difficult. There are too many qualified applicants for these schools.
But, as a parent of a high school freshman, our advice to you is….relax. Yes, your student’s college application process will be stressful in a few years. However, by getting a head start researching college admissions, you can help your student quickly get up to speed on the college search. Now is not the time to discuss college with your 14 year old teen unless they bring it up in conversation. There is enough stress in their life. You don’t need to add college to their list of worries.
